Born in the Midwest, John distinguished himself in golf at an early age, being the son of a University of Iowa and State of Iowa Athletic Hall of Fame father. He accepted a full athletic scholarship to the University of Wyoming and was captain of the team his junior and senior years. He has competed nationally and internationally for many years.

After graduation, John started his real estate finance career in California as a loan originator and loan broker, but interrupted that career to go to Duke University for an MBA degree. As a loan officer he became intrigued by the new developments in mortgage-banking associated with mortgage backed securities (MBS).  He knew he needed to retool to be able to participate in these developments.

Recruited to Texas in the mid-80’s to be chief risk management officer for a national mortgage company, where he was also asked to manage all channels of production: retail, wholesale, and correspondent. The company produced over $2 billion a year in loan volume. John has also been responsible for interest rate risk management and credit risk management, and all operations functions for over 25 years, and has founded two mortgage origination companies. He is an expert in production cost analysis, margin management, interest rate and credit risk management, operations management, and staffing efficiencies. He is also a Master Certified Mortgage Banker (CMB).

John has most recently advised firms wanting to move from a “best-efforts” seller to a “mandatory” seller.  He has written a number of published articles, as well as authoring chapters on loan origination for a couple of books.  He and his wife recently moved to Beaufort, SC and love to travel.
