Dr. Schell is a Managing Partner and Co-Founder of Mortgage Banking Solutions and MBS Financial Services ("MBS"), based in Austin, Texas.  MBS was founded in 2007 and has grown to be a national advisory firm supporting commercial banks, mortgage banks and credit unions in all areas of mortgage finance.  
Andy is known for his ability to turn "vision into reality" and "chaos into order" as he finds creative solutions to the challenges his clients face addressing Revenue Stability, Technology Enhancement, Financial Management, and Workflow Efficiency.


Dr. Schell holds multiple certifications as a CPA/CFF and a CMB, and he ran mortgage divisions at Bank of America. He teaches CEOs, CFO, and CPAs details about Mortgage Finance, and he holds a bachelor’s degree in finance, two masters' degrees in business, and a doctorate in business strategy.  Andy is best known for his ability to listen well and communicate complicated topics in an understandable manner, which enhances his ability as an advisor in mortgage finance.

As one of only three Certified Public Accountants with a Certification in Financial Forensics from the AICPA that also holds a certification as a Certified Mortgage Banker, Dr. Schell is recognized as an expert in all areas of Mortgage Finance, Capital Market transactions, and Accounting for Mortgage activity as well as an expert in Strategic Design and Organization Dynamics including Leadership.
Andy has extensive experience designing strategies and extracting results in various business environments. He has a proven track record of developing innovative solutions to quickly address earning performance issues by increasing sales, improving efficiency and reducing costs.
He has orchestrated the creation of many start-up companies including mortgage banks, technology companies and several federal contracting ventures which grew to become national companies, as well as managed the capital formation requirements to fund the national expansion for several companies by creating a defendable business case and presenting the request to banks and investors across the country. He knows what it takes to launch a profitable and sustainable business.
He began his career in 1978 as a mail-room clerk for an FDIC bank, and after rapid promotion, he was presenting the corporate financial results to the bank’s Board of Directors when he was 24 years old. In 1998, he became President & CFO of a multi-state mortgage bank. Over the past 30-years, he has lead operations for both small and large organizations, including Bank of America in San Francisco where his team created the national Correspondent Lending platform. He also managed all Loan Accounting for the bank's $14 billion mortgage production operation and managed all hedge settlements for a $35 billion portfolio. He directed the loan servicing operation for a multi-billion Dallas commercial bank and went on to led the creation of 7 national companies from mortgage lending to federal contracting including the installation of Intercontinental Ballistic Missile Silos for the national defense shield in Alaska and the reprogramming of software that was sold to NASA.
Andy also teaches strategy and leadership to CEOs and mortgage accounting and hedging to CFOs and CPA Auditors (specifically those who audit mortgage banks) and lenders nationally via the Mortgage Bankers Association. He speaks at national conferences, is published in national circulations discussing accounting, risk management, and capital markets, and is the host of the “Profit Doctor” segment of the national podcast known as Lykken on Lending with over 8,000 individual downloads per week.
Dr. Schell earned a Bachelor's Degree in Banking and Finance from the University of North Texas, he graduated from the Southern Methodist University Graduate School of Banking, he completed graduate studies in Accounting Theory at the University of North Texas, he holds a Master of Business Administration degree, a Master of Science in Management and Leadership degree from Western Governors University, and a Doctorate in Business Strategy from William Howard Taft University. 
Andy and his wife live in Austin where they support local charities including donating their time to help low-income families address complex financial management issues.

Personal Trivia -
  • By the age of 24, he was the youngest controller in the company history of a regulated depository.  
  • In 1982 he installed the first PC computer system for this bank where he programmed a database to track real estate development.
  • In 1984 he created a technology company where he sold services and programmed databases for financial advisors.
  • He has lobbied Senators, Congressman, and Army Generals & Navy Admirals for defense contract awards for the installation of ICBM silos.
  • He is a certified sound engineer running multi-million-dollar sound systems for large venues.
  • He is a professional musician having played drums touring internationally with a band, performed on national TV, and played for recordings used for Austin based Broadway musical performances.
  • He attended a private prep-school in Hawaii that played Barack Obama’s high school in basketball. President Obama attended Punahou and Andy attended Mid-Pacific Institute.
  • He started selling magazines when he was in 1st grade,  he was president of his 6th-grade class, he was head of the campus police in 8th grade, he was selected as the outstanding senior in high school by Mid-Pacific staff and faculty, and he graduated from SMU with honors and distinction for leadership.
  • He was the Founding Board Member for a youth Broadway Musical Group and a Board Member for CrossPoint Church.
