Dr. Schell is Managing Partner and Founder of MBS Financial Services and Mortgage Banking Solutions ("MBS"), based in Austin, Texas.  MBS was founded in 2007 and has grown to be a national advisory firm supporting commercial banks, mortgage banks, and credit unions in all areas of mortgage finance.

Dr. Schell is likely the only person in the country that holds a doctorate, is a Certified Public Accountants with a Certification in Financial Forensics from the AICPA, and is a Certified Mortgage Banker.

Andy has extensive experience designing strategies and extracting results in various business environments. His team created a $5 billion Correspondent Lending function for Bank of America where he also managed the $35 billion Capital Markets settlement activity and managed all mortgage accounting nationally. Dr. Schell is recognized as an expert in all areas of Mortgage Finance, including Capital Markets, Hedging, Accounting, Servicing, and Sales Channel Management, as well as business creation activities including, Strategic Design, Organizational Dynamics, and Leadership. He has a proven track record of developing innovative solutions to quickly address earning performance issues by increasing sales, improving efficiency, and reducing costs. He knows what it takes to launch a profitable and sustainable business.
 
He authored the 2019 publication "The Economic Value of Financial Derivatives", the "ebook of Strategy", which was published in 2021, and his book "A Simple Guide for a Healthy Business" in pending publication.

While COO & CFO for an Alaska Native corporation, Andy led the firm's entry into federal contracting that resulted in constructing Inter-Continental Ballistic Missle (ICBM) silos and creating event detection software for NASA.

Professor and Teaching
Dr. Schell has been a professional instructor for over 10 years, during which time he created the material and delivered over 100 academic sessions of content ranging from strategy and leadership to accounting and hedging, delivered to thousands of CEOs and CFOs of lenders as well as CPA Auditors (specifically those who audit mortgage banks) across the country.
 
He also speaks at national conferences, and vendor events, is published in national circulations discussing accounting, risk management, and capital markets, and offers Continuing Professional Education to Certified Public Accountants.

Dr. Schell is an Adjunct Professor of Communication at Liberty University, where he helps college students master the complexity of communication from strategic to public relations.

More History
He began his career in 1978 as a mail-room clerk for an FDIC bank, and after rapid promotion, he was presenting the corporate financial results to the bank’s Board of Directors when he was 24 years old. In 1998, he became President & CFO of a billion-dollar multi-state mortgage bank.
 
Over the past 40-years, he has lead operations for both small and large organizations, including Bank of America in San Francisco, where his team created a $5 billion national Correspondent Lending platform and he managed the $35 billion Capital Markets settlement activity and all Mortgage Accounting nationally.
 
He directed the loan servicing operation for a multi-billion Dallas commercial bank and then lead the creation of 7 national companies from mortgage lending to federal contracting, including the ICBM silos for the national defense shield in Alaska.

Personal
Andy and his wife live in Austin where they support local charities by donating their time to help low-income families address complex financial management issues, and Andy supports the Sunrise Homeless Navigation Center as the organization's board chair.

Personal Trivia -
  • By the age of 24, he was the youngest controller in the company history of a regulated depository.  
  • In 1982 he installed the first PC computer system for this bank where he programmed a database to track real estate development.
  • In 1984 he created a technology company where he sold services and programmed databases for financial advisors.
  • He has lobbied Senators, legislatures, and Army Generals & Navy Admirals for defense contract awards for the installation of ICBM silos.
  • He is a certified sound engineer running multi-million-dollar sound systems for large venues.
  • He is a professional musician having played drums touring internationally with a band, performed on national TV, and played for recordings used for Austin-based Broadway musical performances.
  • As a freshman in college, he was admitted to the University of North Texas Jazz School of Music before he changed his major to Banking & Finance.
  • He attended a private prep school in Hawaii that played Barack Obama’s high school in basketball. President Obama attended Punahou and Andy attended Mid-Pacific Institute (MPI - The Mighty Owls).
  • He started selling magazines when he was in 1st grade,  he was president of his 6th-grade class, he was head of the campus police in 8th grade, in high school he won motocross races in the 100cc class, he won multiple musical performance awards, he won tennis championships, and he was selected as the outstanding senior in high school by the Mid-Pacific staff and faculty.
  • He graduated from SMU with honors and distinction for leadership.
  • He was the Founding Board Member for a youth Broadway Musical Group and formerly an Elder Board Member for CrossPoint Community Church (CRC).
